Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

SMSC is at the heart of our curriculum as it is essential in developing the whole child and preparing them for Modern Britain. Here at MDJS we offer our pupils a lot of opportunities and experiences to further enrich their Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development. We create these opportunities through Cultural Capital and throughout the curriculum in a variety of ways.

What does SMSC look like at MDJS?

- Promoting British Values and Protected Characteristics within lessons, through class discussions and watching Newsround on a daily basis.

- Residential trips, trips which relate to Topics and whole school trips (beach, cinema, theatre).

-Themed days

-Fundraising such as 'Children In Need', 'Red Nose Day', MacMillan coffee morning, 'Remembrance Day'.

-Awareness of different cultures, religions and beliefs- Black History Month, Diversity Day.

-Mental Health Workshops

-Careers Weeks

- Weekly assemblies to discuss the UNICEF 'Article Of the Week' and Picture News.
