DT - Building a shelter

In Design and Technology, 3SM have been exploring the key features that make an effective shelter, considering why it needs to be strong, durable and waterproof. They investigated different designs before creating their own shelter prototypes using pencils and then carefully evaluated them, discussing flaws in structure and how they could be improved. 3SM then adapted their designs by adding paper and tape, thinking about how shelters can be protected from the weather and secured safely in place. This hands-on learning encouraged the children to test their ideas, solve problems and develop an understanding of how designers improve products through evaluation and modification.
