Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
At MDJS we believe that the learning of a language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. It helps them to develop communication skills, including key skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. The children’s knowledge of how language works will be developed and extended. Lessons will enable pupils to make substantial progress in one language. The linguistic skills gained will assist and lay foundations for further language learning. It will provide pupils with the confidence and independence to explore and be able to attempt manipulation of the structure of language. Learning another language gives children a new and broader perspective on the world, encouraging them to understand their own cultures and those of others.
In our school we learn Spanish
In KS2, children are taught by a specialist teacher directly for 35-40 minutes per week and school aims to follow up activities when appropriate outside of the language lesson.
Primary Languages Network
Since September 2014, the new National Curriculum has made learning a language compulsory in Key Stage 2. With Primary Languages Network’s team’s history, knowledge, and background, we were impressed with their standards, curriculum, and teaching style.
Furthermore, Our Premium Plus Membership places an experienced primary languages teacher and native speaker, alongside our own specialist teacher, in every classroom, delivering weekly, high-quality video lessons in Spanish for every lesson throughout KS2.
