Design and Technology
"High- quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation"
The National Curriculum
Our aim in Design and Technology is to develop creativity, technical and imaginative thinking in children, enabling them to talk about how things work and to develop their technical knowledge, in order to design and make prototypes and products for a wide range of users, in a wide range of contexts. In Design Technology pupils are given the opportunity to research, design and develop products to suit a range of needs. Following the design process, a range of materials are available for construction. Pupils then have the opportunity to evaluate their own and others’ designs and products.
Impact
Children have a set of DT skills embedded. They can talk about real life designers or designs and the impact they have had on the world. They have developed and become confident in the many characteristics of learning such as: resilience, resourcefulness, creativity and problem solving.
We use a range of strategies to assess these skills and knowledge including the following:
*Book monitoring
*Self assessment
*Pupil voice
*Feedback each lesson
