PE and Sport Premium Funding
Physical Education is very important at Michael Drayton Junior School. It promotes our children’s strength, control and co-ordination, improving their physical competence and confidence as well as their ability to perform a wide range of activities and games. Furthermore, the children learn about the importance of an active lifestyle and a healthy diet and the impact that these have on their physical and mental wellbeing.
During their 2 hours of PE a week, all the children are given the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of physical activities and sports. Each class has one PE sessions taught by class teachers or the school’s fulltime Sport Technician, as well as getting one session with specialist sports coaches.
In these sessions, the children are taught a wide variety of sporting techniques, as well as being taught the importance of teamwork and co-operation. The children’s confidence and self-esteem are nurtured, and they are encouraged to apply their sports skills to team situations.
