Keeping in Touch

The partnership between you, as parents, and our school is greatly valued.  Together, we can work to ensure that your child will gain the best possible advantage from their four years at Michael Drayton Junior School.

Our Home School Agreement sets out the expectations of parents, pupils and school acting in partnership.  The signing of the Agreement by all parties signifies a strong commitment.

You are welcome to come and talk to us about your child at any time.  If a problem does arise, it is important for contact to be made at an early stage.  The Headteacher and Deputy are sometimes available before school starts, but it is best to make an appointment if a full discussion is needed.

You are invited to our school for:

  • Parents’ Evenings - held once a term.  These provide a vital opportunity to
discuss your child’s progress with the class teacher.  An appointment system operates.
  • Curriculum Evenings - these offer a chance for you to experience an aspect of work which your child may be
    undertaking in school.
  • Open Days - come and see the school in action.
  • Concerts - celebrate your child’s success in Music and Drama.
  • Assemblies - twice a year your child’s class will produce its own assembly.
  • Sports Days - opportunities for all parents to see their children take part.
  • School Association - this active group of parents, teachers and friends of the school welcomes your contribution.  Funds raised help to improve your child’s school experience. A number of events for parents and children are organised throughout the year.

How we will contact you:

  • We use PS Engage to communicate directly to parents - parents can download the free MyEd app on their mobile phones to view information about their children and to receive important messages from the school.
  • Newsletters informing you of school events are produced weekly.  Parents can view the latest newsletter on the MyEd app or on the school website. Paper copies are available in the reception area.
  • Termly Year Group Letters informing your child will be experiencing in the coming term.
  • The Annual School Report informing you of your child’s progress in all aspects of the school’s curriculum.
  • Homework Diaries are a useful way of passing messages between teachers and home.
  • Website - this is updated regularly with latest news and parent’s letters available to download.
  • Telephone, Letters and Email (if requested)
  • We operate a text messaging service to parents who have given us their mobile phone numbers.
  • We are on Twitter and Facebook which are updated regularly.
