Core Maths
Each week, children access 4 Core Maths sessions and one Arithmetic session. Over the year children will cover a range of areas within Mathematics to ensure a good foundation of knowledge is learnt and developed. The main areas in the program of study covered are; Number, Fractions, Measurement, Geometry, Statistics, Ratio and Proportion and Algebra.
Our curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, such as learning key number facts and times tables, so that pupils can recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
- Reason mathematically by spotting patterns, making connections, discussing different solutions and explaining their answers using mathematical language
- Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems, including breaking them down into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
To support the delivery of our curriculum, we use the White Rose Scheme of Learning. If you would like to support your child in an area of Maths that you have noticed they struggle with you can use the links below to help you.
