Autumn 1

During Autumn 1 in RE, 3SM have been exploring Jewish worldviews, Muslim worldviews, Hindu worldviews and Pagan worldviews, learning how food plays an important role in religious festivals by bringing families together and helping people remember significant traditions, as well as investigating how the moon is used in Judaism and Islam to mark key dates. They explored why nature and the seasons matter across worldviews, discovering that many people see nature as peaceful, meaningful and even a teacher, before reflecting on their own experiences by drawing a special place that feels important to them. Their learning also included the Hindu cycle of samsara and karma, alongside Pagan celebrations on the Wheel of the Year such as Samhain, Beltane and Ostara, exploring how seasonal change shapes rituals and symbolism. They deepened their understanding of Jewish life by learning about Shabbat as a calm, family‑centred time of candle‑lighting, shared meals, rest and togetherness, comparing these traditions with the meaningful activities people enjoy on their own weekends.

In P4C, the children have explored the theme of transition and change, considering whether change is always positive by discussing moments from their own lives and recognising that new experiences can feel exciting, challenging or both. Linking to the International Day of Peace assembly, the children also reflected on what peace means to them and why making peaceful choices can be so important. Alongside this, they have been thinking about the aims of education and their rights under the UNCRC, learning how these rights help ensure fairness. For Black History Month, the class have learned about Wilston Samuel Jackson, Britain’s first Black train driver, using his story to explore prejudice, challenge assumptions and understand the importance of equality and representation.
